Amitav Ghosh was born in Kolkata and grew up in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He is the author of several works of fiction and non-fiction including The Calcutta Chromosome, In an Antique Land, and The Ibis Trilogy – Sea of Poppies, River of Smoke, and Flood of Fire. His latest work is The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable. A Padma Shri, he has also been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award and France’s Prix Médicis. Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, 2008, while Flood of Fire was a finalist for the Man Booker International Prize 2015.
